20110819 Summer Day at Wrigley

We attended a Cubs game with brothers and 2 nephews on likely the most beautiful day of the summer that luckily fell on the practice day of the Chicago Air and Water Show. It ended up being the largest attendance at Wrigley since 1978. Only a few flyovers, but with that as our only complaint, we sure were lucky!

20110731 Theater on the Lake

On a hot last Sunday in July, we headed off down our street to the Chicago lake front to catch a play at Theater on the Lake. We had talked about going for years, but finally got our collective acts together and reserved tickets

… good thing, because when 6:00 rolled around and it was still over 90 degrees we were tempted to skip another venture out into the heat. We’re glad we didn’t take a pass on the play as there are few things that top the breezes on the Chicago lake shore on a summer evening … and the provided do-it-yourself personal fans and beach (food and drink) grill added to the outdoor summer theater vibe!

Cubs July 23, 2011

We hit both Cubs and White Sox games this summer.Two completely different experiences, but we enjoyed both.

Hard to beat Wrigley for the ballpark in the neighborhood vibe and the old time baseball charm … but the Sox do their best to wow with frills and fireworks.

20110806 Johnson-Sauk Trail, IL

We are back to Johnson Sauk Trail where we were sent packing in May after a mega-storm. We reserved site #46 that overlooks the prairie and gave us a great view of the sunset.

Overall, this is a really nice, open, and quiet campground and close enough to our house to make it a one-nighter when we need a break from the city. Only downside were the pesky August mosquitoes and no-see-ums that left us itchy for the next week … but that is all part of the summer camping experience and why some campers look forward to the first frost.

Got our corn dog on at the sizzling hot Taste of Lincoln Avenue and checked out all the crafty folk at the first annual Lill Street Craft Fair … the third neighborhood festival in our hood in as many weeks … that’s summer in chi-town.
